Nicholas James Vujicic was born on the 4th of December 1982 in Melbourne Australia. From birth, he had a rare disorder known as ‘tetra-amelia syndrome’, caused by mutations in the gene and characterized by the absence of all four limbs. In some cases, the disorder also affects other parts of the body such as the face, skull, reproductive organs, anus and pelvis. In Nick’s case, even three ultrasounds couldn’t detect the disorder before birth.
Nick’s parents were shocked that he arrived without limbs and there was no medical explanation for this condition. They were face with the huge task of raising a special child, yet their love for Nick knew no bounds. They made sure he was kept in mainstream education and gave him all their love and support. Like any kid with a disability, growing up was very challenging for Nick. However, he discovered that he could rise above his hurdles at a very young age. Blessed with two sibling he describes as his best friends, Nick overcame depression and being suicidal based on the love that surrounded him.
At age thirteen, Nick learned a vital lesson when he hurt his foot which aided him in activities like typing, swimming and writing. It made his realize that he needed to be thankful for his abilities and less focused on his disabilities Instead of dwelling on the things that he lacked, Nick decided to use his voice to change the lives of many when he was just fifteen years old. He began to speak and motivate smaller groups of students until he started going across the world, to over 44 countries. He created the company Attitude is Altitude and launched the nonprofit ministry “Life without Limbs”.
Nick is happily married with a child and the amazing couple are expecting another baby soon. Together with his lovely wife, they co-wrote the book, ‘Love with Limits’. What better words to describe their union and the love that has shaped the incredible life of Nick Vujicic. In Nick’s words “Whoever you are, wherever you are from and whatever you’re dealing with, I hope that you will be inspired by my story and my message”.
